Former D.C. schools chancellor takes on DeVos: ‘Sorry lady … this is so amateur and unprofessional’

According to the Washington Post's Valerie Strauss, Kaya Henderson, the former chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools, has responded publicly to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’s comments about teachers at a D.C. public school she recently visited.

After the visit to DCPS Jefferson Middle School Devos later criticized its teachers describing them as sincere, genuine and dedicated, but seemed to be in “receive mode.”

“They’re waiting to be told what they have to do, and that’s not going to bring success to an individual child,” DeVos told a columnist for the conservative online publication Townhall. “You have to have teachers who are empowered to facilitate great teaching.” Read more.
